The deadly Cyclone Michaung destroyed Chennai and its nearby places in the first week of December. Many people suffered as the flood water entered their houses in the low lying localities.
The TN government then decided to provide flood relief funds of Rs 6000 to the residents of all the circles in Chennai and specifically affected circles in the neighbouring districts of Chengalpet, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram. For getting this flood relief amount, more than 6lakhs people have applied and the officials are examining them.
It was mentioned that those higher officers working in the central govt, state govt, IT payers, family ration card holders etc could also apply for the flood relief amount of Rs 6000 after specifying the effect. From 14th December onwards, tokens for flood relief amount are being provided to the beneficiaries.
It must be recalled that on 17th December the chief minister of TN Mr. MK. Stalin inaugurated the distribution of flood relief amounts in Velachery in south Chennai. At that point of time it was announced that Rs 1437 cr was set aside as a relief amount for 24.75lakh people. The flood relief amount is being distributed continuously is known. It was announced that till today the flood relief amount would be provided to those having flood tokens and for those who were left out would be provided with the flood relief amount tomorrow.
Till yesterday morning, the flood relief amount of Rs 6000 has been provided to 21lakhs people. This was mentioned by the officials now.
