The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has completed 100% of the piling works in the 8 km stretch of Corridor 4 between Kodambakkam Powerhouse and Porur Junction Station as part of its Phase 2 project. This segment includes five single-decker and four double-decker stations, requiring 2,255 piles to provide structural support and transfer load to the ground.
Despite challenges such as diverting 24.45 km of utilities and redesigning pile layouts to protect critical infrastructure like a 1,200mm water line, the project team achieved success. One major accomplishment was the diversion of a massive 1,500mm water line without disrupting the water supply.
The milestone was marked in the presence of CMRL officials, including Director (Projects) Thiru T. Archunan, CGM (T & EC) Thiru S. Ashok Kumar, CGM (P & D) Tmt. Rekha Prakash, and representatives from general consultants and contractors. This progress is a significant step forward in enhancing Chennai`s metro connectivity.
