Transformation of Chennai`s sanitation landscape!!
The chief minister of TN Mr. M.K. Stalin has given administrative sanction for Rs1202 crores project that involves developing and maintaining 1002 community and public toilets in Chennai city. By this, the Chennai city`s sanitation landscape would get transformed and modern hygienic facilities would be provided to the residents. This was according to the TN government.
The release from the TN government mentioned that the project would be executed under the PPP or Public - Private partnership model. Point to be noted is that it would adopt a design, build, finance, operate and transfer framework or DBFOT. By this, there would be efficient operations plus maintenance and quality control etc.
It must be noted that the project would be implemented in phases. Already, first phase is now in progress. The project would be implemented throughout the city.
Point is that under the expanded scope 2301 toilet seats present in 285 community and in the public restrooms belonging to zones 1 2 3 and 4 under phase 2 would he upgraded at a cost of Rs 362. 3 crores.191
Likewise, 2760 toilet seats present in the 395 community and public restrooms belonging to the zones 7 8 9 and 10 under phase 3 would be upgraded at a cost.of Rs 455.43 crores.
At an estimated cost of Rs 383.9 crores, 2105 toilet seats present in the 322 community and public restrooms belinging to the zones 11, 12,13, 14 and 15 would be upgraded.
Key features of the project:
It includes the development of 7188 toilet seats under CCMS or centralised control and monitoring system & independent engineering consultancy for maintenance and quality oversights etc. Within a year, the construction and renovation phase would be completed. This would be followed by 8 years of maintenance.
