The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has received administrative approval to construct public toilets across the city under the DBFOT (Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer) model. Sanctioned on December 6 by the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department, the project is estimated at ₹1,202 crore.
The initiative builds on a pilot project in zones 5, 6, and 7 (Marina), where 3,270 toilets were set up at 372 locations for ₹430 crore, with 70% of the work completed. Contractors will now construct new facilities or maintain existing ones, with provisions for advertising on toilet walls and maintenance funding based on performance.
The project aims to enhance sanitation infrastructure citywide.
