Chennai Suburban Trains to Get Air-Conditioned Coaches from January 2025

Rail passengers in Chennai can look forward to a more comfortable travel experience as the city’s suburban train network is set to introduce air-conditioned coaches. The Southern Railway`s Chennai division will receive a 12-car air-conditioned rake from the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) by mid-January 2025.
This new addition is expected to benefit commuters who face challenges of overcrowding and heat during their daily journeys. The Chennai suburban train network covers key routes, connecting Chengalpattu in the south and Arakkonam and Thiruttani in the west.
The move is part of an effort to enhance commuter comfort and upgrade the suburban train services in the city.
