The sensational news that has come out now is that yesterday for the first time India exported defence uniforms from Avadi based Ordnance Clothing Factory to the Republic of Suriname
Yesterday, Mr. B.S. Reddy, GM of OCF in Avadi flagged off the export consignment truck from OCF. It is worth noting that to boost mutual ties these military uniforms are offered by the Ministry of Defence, GOI, to the Ministry of Defence Suriname.
Works that are carried out in OCF Avadi:
According to the specification of Suriname army, 4500 pieces of digital camouflage uniform worth Rs 1.71 cr have been designed at OCF in Avadi. Point is that the cost is borne by the Indian govt.e
As per the GM of OCF, following this shipment to Suriname Port, an order worth Rs 5 cr was expected. In around 60 to 70 days, the shipment would reach Suriname. He also revealed that approximately 10 months was the time taken to design uniforms as per their specifications etc.
It must be taken into account that OCF in Avadi (a unit of Troops Comfort Limited, public sector undertaking of the Ministry of Defence) supplies uniforms primarily to the Indian Army. In addition, the OCF has also supplied armoured vehicles protection, bullet resistant jackets and bullet resistant vests to TN police department.
It must be remembered that OCF in Avadi has rendered services to the Armed Forces of India by supplying defence products to the military troops in the India-China war in 1962, India-Pakistan war in 1971 and in 1999 Kargil war etc.
Ever since OCF was established in the year 1961, it has been supplying uniforms, dungarees, gym shorts etc. These days, OCF supplies bullet proof jackets, bomb suppression blankets, bomb resistant suits, combat uniforms etc. Not only these, OCF does superbly in supplying tents, parachutes, bulletproof jackets, helmets etc to defence and paramilitary forces belonging to TN, Puducherry, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Odisha and Kerala.
Important piece of information is that OCF in Avadi has got R & D tie ups with IITM, IIT Roorkee, CSIR Labs, AMPRI in Bhopal, and CECRI in Karaikudi etc to develop modern defence equipment.
