The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has initiated plans to construct a cable-stayed bridge across the Adyar River, connecting Srinivasapuram and Urur Kuppam, replacing the old Broken Bridge.
Inspired by the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, the bridge is designed for both functionality and aesthetics. The project is in its initial stages, with materials, cost, and dimensions yet to be finalized.
GCC has invited tenders for a Detailed Feasibility Report (DFR) at ₹20 lakh, adhering to Indian and international standards. The consultant will conduct traffic and geotechnical surveys, propose designs, and secure approvals.
Once built, the bridge aims to reduce congestion on Greenways Road and Santhome, improving connectivity between Besant Nagar and Foreshore Estate. The consultancy work will be completed in three phases within 45 days.
