Soon, the issues regarding digging of roads in localities such as Pammal and Anakaputhur etc in south Chennai won`t be there. The UGD or underground works project would be completed by April by the Tambaram Corporation.

In 2021, the Pammal Municipality was merged with the Tambaram Corporation and after this merge the UGD project was launched.

It was later explained by Mr. S. Balachander, Commissioner of Tambaram Corporation that Rs 211 cr project has been executed in 2 packages and it would cover eleven wards in Pammal and Anakaputhur. Except for a few civil works, all other works have been completed at the Anakaputhur.

It is learnt that in Pammal installing the pipes for evacuating through gravity is the only pending work. Ninety five percent of the civil works have been finished. To review the progress of the project, the chief secretary has been holding meetings regularly. Once the commissioning report is given, the TN chief minister would launch the project.

What is this UGD project about?

It is worth mentioning here that this UGD project involves laying pipelines for about 50kms covering as many as 389 streets in Anakaputhur locality and 100kms covering as many as 877 streets in Pammal locality. Two sewage treatment plants would be set up.

The Tambaram Corporation has proposed to install machine holes instead of traditional manholes in 2212 places in Pammal and 768 places in Anakaputhur.

Who are the contractors?

VVV Constructions:

The contractor has been responsible for constructing the UGD scheme in Pammal.

Keyem Infra Project:

Point to be noted is that the construction of the internal chamber, installation of pipes and machine hole erection have been finished.
