Power production from kitchen wastes

The civic body has come up with a productive idea of using your kitchen wastes – banana peels, excess food items and many more – in the 15 bio-methanisation plants that are to be set up in 15 varied zones. Speaking to the Chennai Corporation officials, they stated that a pilot project of bio-methanisation plant is being set up at the transfer station land of the Corporation in Basin Bridge. Two rooms for storing the bio diesel and digestion tank are constructed, and the electrical and mechanical works are done. The rest of the works are expected to get completed shortly.

The Corporation has planned to construct three more such plants at New Avadi road and Otteri. It is to be noted that most of the waste materials generated in the city are bio-waste materials or organic ones that have the scope of power production. As the collection process is easier, the civic body is focusing on large scale bio-waste rather than others.
