We have decided to expand our landline broadband connections, by providing the connections in 10 key areas in Chennai which have been marked in as ‘Technically Non-Feasible’ under the reach of our copper cable network, says BSNL Chennai Telephones.

Underground cable work has been connected to areas like Arumbakkam, Koyambedu and Ganga Nagar in Urappakam. Work is still on the way in the shadow regions like Ganesh Nagar (Adambakkam) and Radha Nagar (Chromepet) as they are yet to get into the reach of the copper cable network.

As of now we have 3.8 lakhs broadband customers and the scarcity of the 1,500 & 500 pair segments of the copper cable have been impeding our broadband business, explained by the BSNL Chennai officials.

Since January, fresh materials for new cable networks have been mounting up, which induces the BSNL Telephones to proceed with their issuance of the several new connections. Even though getting permission from the Highways for hollowing out the roads for cables, hinders to carry out the expansion activities, sources explained.

Business managers of BSNL look for a huge market latent for broadband in the newly coupled areas in the city. BSNL’s approach is to fetch all its 8.5 lakh landline broadband users into its ‘DataOne’ fold.
