Soon, Chennai will get a large sewage treatment plant which will be operating in multipart with the Chennai Corporation.
It will have
the capacity of treating nearly 120 million litres of sewage a day (MLD). The
construction work in Koyambedu includes more than 100 workmen, so as to finish
the work soon. Chennai Corporation says that this is the13th sewage
plant in Chennai and their target is to treat sewage of 732 (MLD) and the
present capacity is 612 MLD only.
Till now, 39
units of the plant (which is more than 80 percent) of the work has been
accomplished at the site.
This
construction work includes building a huge brim like arrangements, which will
divide slush from water and then this water will be taken for further treatment
procedures.
In addition
to this, we also need enhanced sewer lines so as to foil frequent spill over of
sewage, says a resident at Virugambakam.
A new plant
endorsed by the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, will be
covering areas including Nerkundram, Ambattur, Maduravayal and Nolambur, said
the sources from Chennai Metrowater. This plant will take the load capacity of
30 MLD and will get mounted on, an official said.
Another project, cost Rs.77 Crores will be commissioned next month, which is implemented by Pune-based Gharpure Engineering and Construction Limited.
