The passport issuing officials in Tamil Nadu face the hardship and acute embarrassment failing to give proper answers for the queries of the passport applicants who have been waiting for a long time.
Passport offices are functioning at Chennai, Coimbatore, Trichy, and Madurai in the state of Tamil Nadu.
For all applications on-line, the dates of interview will be given immediately. If all the required documentary evidences are presented on the date of interview, the officials will verify and return them. Police enquiry will follow and based on this report, passport will be processed and issued.
For those who applied for passports in June this year, passports are yet to be issued.
Printing of passports has been stopped as there are no books available. These are sent from the office of the Ministry of External Affairs.
Over the last 2 months, 25000 passport applications from Chennai, 8000 from Coimbatore, and 20000 from other centres have not been issued because of the passport book shortage.
At the same time, fresh applications are also being received.
Many of the applicants are scheduled to join new jobs or educational institutions. They are put to severe hardships without any solution.
An official from Coimbatore informed:
Only small quantities of passport books are being received. 8000 applicants are waiting. 25000 are waiting in Chennai.

It may require another 15 to 20 days for issue of passports to those who applied in June & July. At the same, the number of new applications has been increasing steadily.
