Control room numbers to inform of rain-related issues

The regional weather office said as heavy rains continued to lash many parts of the state, a trough of low pressure over southwest Bay of Bengal will bring copious rains for another 24 hours.
 
With the Northeast monsoon, which brings the bulk of rainfall for Tamil Nadu, setting in on Saturday, heavy rains lashed Chennai and many other parts of the State, resulting in inundation of low-lying areas.
 
The weather office forecast isolated heavy rainfall in north and south Tamil Nadu for another 24 hours.
 
According to the observations recorded by the weather office till 8.30 am today, Nagappatinam recorded a maximum of 89.7 mm rainfall.
 
A Coimbatore report said the district recorded a total of 292.20 mm, while Puducherry recorded 86 mm.
 
Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Government held a review meeting to check the preparedness with Northeast monsoon getting active.
 
Revenue Minister RB Uthayakumar held a meeting with his senior officials, including Relief Commissioner TS Sridhar.
 
The government has set up a toll-free helpline where people can call control room numbers to inform of rain-related issues, an official release said.
 
The toll-free helpline numbers will be 1070 at the state level and 1077 in the districts.
