Aadhar-free LPG Subsidy from Jan 1

Posted on: 05/Dec/2014 10:37:28 AM
In a major relief to LPG consumers, Aadhar number for availing subsidy will no longer be mandatory under the Direct Benefit Transfer of LPG (DBTL) scheme, which is set to be rolled out across all districts in Tamil Nadu on January 1, 2015.

Consumers without Aadhar cards will just have to give their bank account details to LPG distributors or 17 digit LPG ID to their bank in prescribed forms for getting the cash transferred to their specified accounts. Those with Aadhar number will have to follow the pre-established process of seeding it with their bank accounts for cash transfer while those who have already enrolled themselves in the scheme will continue with their status.

Even though the DBTL will be launched from January 1, consumers without cash transfer compliance (CTC) will have a grace period of three months during which they will receive cylinders at subsidised rate. After that, they will again get three months as parking period under which they will buy cylinders at market rate. But the subsidy will be parked with the company and transferred once the consumer links his bank account or Aadhar number.

Consumers will get a permanent advance of Rs 568 in their bank account as soon as they make their first booking. The advance amount will help them pay for the first LPG cylinder at market price.
