The Director for school education has sent a circular to all Primary Education Officers that awareness must be created among the students about symptoms of dengue fever and swine flu.
The text:
Following points regarding dengue & swine flu prevention should be given to all school headmasters/principals through the respective primary education officers.
Headmasters/principals and teachers, should inform the students about these points and create awareness regarding symptoms of dengue & swine flu.
· Teachers & students must wash their hands regularly – especially, before every meal session.
· Classes should be kept clean.
· No stagnant water must be allowed in classrooms or around the toilets. IF there is some stagnant water in an area, action must be taken to remove it immediately.
Creating awareness:
· Drinking water storages like pots & tanks must always be covered. This will prevent multiplication of mosquitoes.
· Awareness must be given regarding symptoms of dengue & swine flu fevers.
· Students should learn about the symptoms and share it with their parents.
· If any student or teacher is affected with sudden high fever or cold, they should be immediately taken to the nearest government primary health centre or hospital.
· Students should not indulge in self-medication at all. If any other member in the student’s family is affected by high fever or cough, students should inform the teacher/headmaster and make immediate arrangements for treatment in the government hospital.
· The districts of Dindigul, Andipatti, Theni, Coimbatore, Nagapattinam, Thirunelveli, Thiruvarur, Virudhunagar, and Villupuram should give top priority to creating awareness about dengue & swine flu fevers.
· Tomorrow (Tuesday, 10th February, has been announced as ‘deworming day’ (removal of intestinal worms). All students of all government & government-aided schools will be given deworming medicine by the department of health. Ensure that every student is given medicine.
· A special camp for distribution of deworming medicine is scheduled on 13th February for the students who could not take the medicine on 10th February.
