The Director for school education has sent a circular to all Primary Education Officers that awareness must be created among the students about symptoms of dengue fever and swine flu.

The text:

Following points regarding dengue & swine flu prevention should be given to all school headmasters/principals through the respective primary education officers.

Headmasters/principals and teachers, should inform the students about these points and create awareness regarding symptoms of dengue & swine flu.

·         Teachers & students must wash their hands regularly – especially, before every meal session.

·         Classes should be kept clean.

·         No stagnant water must be allowed in classrooms or around the toilets. IF there is some stagnant water in an area, action must be taken to remove it immediately.

Creating awareness:

·         Drinking water storages like pots & tanks must always be covered. This will prevent multiplication of mosquitoes.

·         Awareness must be given regarding symptoms of dengue & swine flu fevers.

·         Students should learn about the symptoms and share it with their parents.

·         If any student or teacher is affected with sudden high fever or cold, they should be immediately taken to the nearest government primary health centre or hospital.

·         Students should not indulge in self-medication at all. If any other member in the student’s family is affected by high fever or cough, students should inform the teacher/headmaster and make immediate arrangements for treatment in the government hospital.

·         The districts of Dindigul, Andipatti, Theni, Coimbatore, Nagapattinam, Thirunelveli, Thiruvarur, Virudhunagar, and Villupuram should give top priority to creating awareness about dengue & swine flu fevers.

·         Tomorrow (Tuesday, 10th February, has been announced as ‘deworming day’ (removal of intestinal worms). All students of all government & government-aided schools will be given deworming medicine by the department of health. Ensure that every student is given medicine.

·         A special camp for distribution of deworming medicine is scheduled on 13th February for the students who could not take the medicine on 10th February.
