Ban on sand quarrying extended

The State government extended the ban on sand quarrying in Kancheepuram for three years. The decision is likely to deal a blow to the construction industry, which is struggling to recover from rising prices of raw material.
The ban is being extended for three years, beginning November 13.
Builders fear this move will have an adverse impact on the construction industry, which is already facing a slowdown. Non-availability of sand would push the industry into doldrums.The builders can neither bear the burden nor pass it on to the customers as the flats were already sold at old rates.
