Corporation readies Chennai for Global Investors Meet

In view of the upcoming Global Investors Meet, the Chennai Corporation has relaid 55 roads across the city. Lane marking will be undertaken over this week. The Corporation has also drained out stagnant water in the surrounding areas. Some of the Metro Rail sites have been decorated with artwork and freshly painted. 

Roads that lead to luxury hotels, heritage sites and the Chennai Trade Center, where the Meet will be held, have been re laid. According to sources, these roads will see traffic from over 3000 delegates that will attend the two day event. Priority has been given to 40 bus routes, 15 interior roads and 10 highways. Delegates from 8 partner countries and 30 non partner countries are expected to attend the Meet. 

According to an official, `The interior roads have been identified near areas such as Triplicane, Mylapore, MRC Nagar, Boat Club and Nandambakkam. A suggestion for fresh painting or artwork on metal cladding at Metro Rail sites has been made at a meeting on Monday. Such sites remain an eyesore. A decision may be made shortly. Incomplete work on footpaths along highway stretches such as Anna Salai remains a concern.`

The roads that will be done are  Sardar Patel Road, TTK Road, Santhome High Road, St. Marys Road, Greams Road, Greenways Road, General Patters Road, Kodambakkam High Road, Kutchery Road, Pantheon Road, Anna Salai, Rajiv Gandhi Salai, Poonamallee High Road and East Coast Road.

The Chennai Corporation has started to clear bushes surrounding the Chennai Trade Center area. It is also trying to address the mosquito menace in the city by cleaning canals and opening the river mouth.
