The Supreme Court imposed an interim ban to conduct Jallikkattu today (Tuesday, 12th January).
The central government withdrew the ban on Jallikkattu imposed in the last 4 years on 8th January.
Animals like bear, monkey, tiger, leopard, lion, and bulls must not be used as exhibition items and also they should not be used for training & performing feats.
In the latest central government decision, it removed the ban on jallikkattu in Tamil Nadu and Rekla Race in Maharashtra, Haryana, Karnataka, Punjab, Kerala, and Gujarat as these 2 events has been social & traditional events.
However, the Department for Animal Welfare and the organisation PETA filed petitions against the withdrawal of the ban.
This petition came up for enquiry today (12th January) before Judges Mrs. Deepak Misra & N V Ramana. As there was a prior instance when a judge withdrew himself in the case against the withdrawal of the ban, the Supreme Court has shifted to the case to another sitting session.
