Mervin Alexander, Postmaster General (CCR) has mentioned that all Postal Life Insurance and Rural Postal Life Insurance in Chennai have been computerized.
Speaking on this occasion, he said, Postal Life Insurance was introduced in the year 1884. Later on Rural Postal Life Insurance was introduced. The policy holders for both the schemes are more in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu is in number one position while the second place goes to Karnataka.
In spite of this, policy holders are lesser in numbers. All the post offices have been fully computerized with the aid of foreign software with the intention of increasing the policy holders. With the core banking in existence, the customers can remit the payment in any part of Chennai. They can also use internet banking.
In Tamil Nadu there are five lakhs 37 thousands and 152 postal life insurance policy holders and 36 Lakhs 59,200 rural postal insurance policy holders. In Chennai City postal division, there are 3 lakhs 49,618 postal life insurance policy holders and 6 lakhs 67, 506 rural insurance policy holders. ATMs would soon be added in post offices at Kancheepuram, Arakkonam, Park Town and Chengalpattu. Customers could also use these debit cards in any of the postal ATMs across the State.
