E-FIRs in police stations to be implemented from 15th April

Now it has been made compulsory to file FIRs through computers in all police stations of Tamil Nadu.
With this, apart from the police registering complaints online, it will possible for people to track the status of their complaint by logging into the Common Integrated Police Record Updated System (CIPRUS) with a password given while registering an FIR.
In the next stage of the process, the FIRs would be mailed to the respective courts. Currently, the FIR is printed out and sent to the respective court after the inspector concerned signs it. Once all the courts are interlinked with the police stations, which are already supposed to be digitally connected, the police officers can directly mail the FIR to the respective court.
As on date, all the senior police officers and inspectors have been trained in registering FIRs online.
