Many people seem to be leaving the city on Friday night, in the wake of Monday’s polling for the State Assembly elections. In light of high demand, the State Transport Corporation has added 750 extra buses.
A senior official from the State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) said, (We have) added 150 buses, the rest came from other districts. We usually have 2,380 departures every day. On Friday, there were 3,130.
On a normal day, from Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus, there are about 1.2 lakh departures every day on government buses. However, on Friday night alone, there were around 1.60 lakh departures. Say officials, The return trips will be scattered over the week. Each district will assess the situation and deploy how many ever buses are required.
Commuters have complained about traffic in Koyambedu. They say, All approach roads to Koyambedu were congested much more than usual. There were lines of buses - both private and government - waiting to enter the bus stand. The traffic was standing still.
