For the first time in the history of Chennai, the tomatoes are being sold for Rs 100 per kilo. The public are in deep shock. Four months back a kilo of tomatoes were sold for Rs 7. Now the prices have gone extremely high. The reason for this is short supply.

Tomatoes were brought in 100 lorries for sales in Koyambedu wholesale market. For the last few days, only 50 lorry loads of tomatoes are arriving. On Monday, the tomatoes were sold for Rs 80 per kilo in the wholesale market. On Tuesday the prices of tomatoes were Rs 100.

When compared to last year, there is scorching heat in Andhra and Karnataka. Because of this tomato plants have dried and the production has come down by 30 percent.
