Chennaites are cheerful because the vegetable prices have come down very drastically since supply has increased in wholesale markets.
Cabbages are being sold for Rs 6 per kilo while beetroot and ladies fingers are being sold for Rs 8 per kilo. Brinjals and snake gourds are being sold for Rs 10 per kilo.
Though the public are happy about the decline of the price, the wholesale and retail market merchants say that they are unhappy because they are not able to get much profit.
Koyambedu Market tomato traders` Association, M. Thyagarajan while speaking about the decline said: The tomatoes procured from other states can be sold only for less profit. We are not in a position to pay the wages to the laborers.
