Until Saturday, jasmine was sold for Rs 150 per kilo and Mullai was sold for Rs 140. All of a sudden on Sunday morning the price of jasmine and Mullai escalated to Rs 500 and Rs 450 per kilo respectively. One cubit of jasmine which was sold for rs 25 was sold for Rs 50 on Sunday.
President, M.D.Arul Viswasam, Chennai Koyambedu Malar Motha Vyabarigal Sangam while speaking said: There is normal flow of flowers. Due to Vinayaka Chaturthi festival and other auspicious days, there is demand for more flowers. Since there is short supply of flowers in Madurai, a kilo of jasmine was sold for Rs 800-900. Since there is more supply of flowers in Chennai, jasmine was sold between Rs 450 to Rs 500 per kilo. For the next few days the prices of the flowers will go up.
