Vegetable prices continue to rise in Koyambedu market

As a number of auspicious days for conducting weddings are in the offing in the coming days, the prices of vegetables are going up in the wholesale vegetable market in Koyambedu.

It was a different trend altogether in the last month - with the lesser quantity of vegetables arriving from Andhra and Karnataka (due to the prevailing drought conditions), a substantial reduction in the number of buyers to the market (due to the intense hot summer season), and the lesser number of auspicious days to conduct weddings, the prices of vegetables were actually down and the low price trend prevailed.

However, with several auspicious days for conducting weddings approaching, the prices of vegetables have started rising.

The price of tomato was up by Rs. 2 per kg and was sold at Rs. 22 per kg.
The small (sambar) onion was sold at Rs. 95 per kg from Rs. 85/-. Brinjals were sold at Rs. 50 per kg instead of Rs. 35. Broad beans were sold at Rs. 45 per kg instead of Rs. 40. Bitter gourd was sold at Rs. 40 per kg in place of Rs. 30. Beetroot was sold at Rs. 35 per kg in place of Rs. 28. Drumstick was sold at Rs. 30 per kg in place of Rs. 25.

It is expected that once the string of the auspicious days for weddings are over, the prices of vegetables will come down again.
