The prices of some of the vegetables in the Koyambedu wholesale vegetable market have gone up by up to 20%.
The price of carrot is up by Rs. 30 per kg and is sold at Rs. 70 per kg. The price of beans is up by Rs. 20 per kg and is sold at Rs. 70 per kg.
The prices of okra (lady’s finger), cluster beans (Kothavarankai) and colocasia (Seppankizhangu) were also up by Rs. 10 per kg.
The quantity of small onions arriving from the northern states has increased – this has brought down the price of small onions which was sold at Rs. 150 per kg down to Rs. 110 per kg.
Tomato, which was sold at Rs. 60 per kg 2 days ago, is now sold at Rs. 50 per kg.
For the 1st time ever, the price red plantain bananas have come down by 50% and are sold at Rs. 40 per kg.
As the recent banana harvest has been rather good, the other brands of bananas were sold at lower prices at Rs. 100 per tar (a big bunch).
