Last week a high power committee meeting was held and at this meeting 80 crores project for revamping lighting infrastructure in extended areas in Chennai was sanctioned.
It is now revealed people living in these eight extended places such as Manali, Thiruvottriyur, Madhavaram, Ambattur, Sholinganallur, Valasarawakkan, Alandur and Perungudi would be benefited because revamped installation of as many as 17000 light poles and light fittings would be done soon.
In these eight places galvanised iron poles and LED lightings would take over from the existing old fittings and poles and that would be superb.
Recently an official belonging to Chennai Corporation spoke about how Corporation has been waiting for the approval from the government and how it has been approved now. He also hinted that tenders regarding this would be floated and all the sodium vapour lamps plus tube lights would be replaced by new LED lightings.
It is worthy to mention that the meeting that took place last week was attended by many important officials like finance secretary, chairman of TUFIDCO plus meeting also had members from the municipal administration etc. The good news is this revamping the lightings work would be completed in two months of time as soon as tenders are given. It is now said that civic body is waiting for an approval of 140 crores project where 70,000 lamps present in the streets of all the zones would be changed to LED lightings.
Installation of solar panels across all corporation buildings in Chennai is very important in the promotion of renewable source of energy and civic body is waiting for the approval of this project. It is now said that there are as many as 2.78 lakh lamps in Chennai and 1.71 lakhs are LED lamps. A s a result of this there is 45% reduction in the consumption of energy.
