The latest news is government bus services across the state of Tamil Nadu would not operate from Friday. This was because of the failed discussions on the wage revisions. It must be noted that nearly 40 % of buses belonging to the government did not operate from late evening on Thursday itself. It is now said that more would be taking part in the strike from now.

The meeting that took place was chaired by the minister of transport Mr Vijayabaskar and the representatives of the 46 workers unions took part in the meeting.

It is now revealed that there are as many as 20800 government buses in the state of Tamil Nadu and around 1.8 crores of people travel regularly.

One important piece of information is more than one lakh employees of Metropolitan Transport Corporation of Chennai, State Express Transport Corporation and Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation would be taking part in this massive strike.

It is now said that the trade unions are demanding increase in the salaries so that their basic pay would be revised to Rs 19500 and that would be equal to the permanent state government employee basic pay. It must be noted that most of the transport employees were hired on contact basis only.

It is important to note that the government suggested that the employees agree to get categorized into three groups and this would be based on their experience. The three categories are those employees having greater than six years of service, those having less than six years of service, those who are employed newly between the years 2013 and 2016.

It is now confirmed that nearly 80,000 employees in category one would get salary increase of Rs 2300-Rs 11800 and those in second category would get a basic pay of Rs 17500. For other employees rise according to three multiplication factor would be carried out.
