Last date for tenders for Jayalalitha memorial project is now extended

It is known that Dr J. Jayalalitha’s memorial project would be constructed on Marina Beach in Chennai. The latest news is the last date for submitting the tenders for this project in the memory of late chief minster Dr J. Jayalalitha has been extended and this is till 21st of February 2018. On Tuesday, 6th February 2018 government of Tamil Nadu announced this to the Madras High Court.

It is important to note that this extension in the date was done to comply with the provisions of the TN Transparency in Tender Act.

Mr. Vijay Narayan who is the advocate general told Justice of Madras High Court Mr. Ravichandrababu about this when a petition filed by a contractor Mr. Natarajan came up for the hearing in the court. It must be noted that first bench of the court headed by chief justice Indra Banerjee was hearing a similar case and judge referred the present matter to be posted before the first bench after the judge had recorded the submissions.

The tender value for this memorial project is of Rs 43.63 crores. It is now revealed that the petitioner wanted this tender notification to be published in the Indian Trade Journal. Petitioner also wanted minimum time period of 30 days that must be provided to submit the bids according to the provisions of Tamil Nadu Transparency in Tender Act.

One important piece of information is any tender of worth more than Rs 2 crores must provide a minimum of 30 days time period to submit the bids and this is according to the TN Transparency in Tender Act. This time period of 30 days must be from the date on which notification was published.

As per the petitioner, on 11th January 2018 the notification was issued and 10th February 2018 must have been the last date for bids submission.
