Composting is a method by which organic matter or compost is decomposed. Presence of bad smell is a major problem in this process.
A compost yard present very close to Poonamallee bus terminus is now making a big issue.
The news is Poonamalle municipality has reduced the operation in the compost yard near the Poonamalle bus terminus due to the oppositions from the people living there.
To reduce the amount of waste dumped in the municipality yard along the Chennai-Vellore highway, a compost yard was set up so that biodegradable waste could be processed.
A shopkeeper named Arumugam expressed his thoughts regarding this compost yard and said there was no logic in setting up of this compost yard near the popular Poonamalle bus terminus.
He also spoke about how his business got affected because of the bad smell from this compost yard nearby. He threw light on how he had lost his customers slowly due to this bad smell.
In the month of March group of lawyers belonging to the adjacent court staged a protest against this composting work and it attracted the attention of many. The municipality then only took this issue into consideration.
According to a security personnel of the court, a fresh load of biodegradable waste caused huge problems due to unbearable smell.
