After 7 long years of closure, Nehru Park is all set to get opened next month. Due to Chennai Metro Rail works, the park remained closed for 7 years, and intense renovation activities are being performed now to reopen it next month.

Since a few months, the renovation activities are being carried out. Soon, the park will be kept open for the public to enjoy, but with enhanced facilities. Fountains, jogging/walking track, play area, etc. are some of the additions people are likely to get excited about.

The underground Nehru Park station had been constructed close to this area. Though the stretch between Thirumangalam and Nehru Park started getting functional about one year ago, the park continued to be closed. There were recent announcements that the park would open up for public by March, but it wasn’t.

As over 65 trees have fallen, walkers will of course tend to feel the heat. About 250 sq.m. of the total area of 7,250 sq.m. is used for CMRL construction where entry and exit points are set up for the metro station.

Once it gets opened, this park will be the very first to get restored by the Chennai Metro Rail Limited.
