Chennai city and traffic congestion are inseparable. Every day in Chennai many traffic congestion takes place and they create problems for the public. On Monday, in the assembly, the chief minister of TN, Mr. E. Palaniswamy, grabbed the attention of many. He announced many plans to boost the road infrastructure in the city of Chennai for the smooth flow of vehicular traffic.
To acquire lands for the 18 projects, an amount of Rs 1122 crores would be earmarked from the NDB or New Development Bank. The chief minister spoke about how 13 flyovers, 2 Railway over bridges, 2 foot over bridges and a bridge across the river would be built. He added that in the first phase land would be acquired at a cost of Rs 1122 crores.
In places such as Kattupakkam, Akkarai, Ambattur, Avadi, Madhavaram, Ramapuram, Kundrathur, Kaiveli, Selaiyur, Korattur, Vadapalani-PT. Rajan Salai Junction, Madhya Kailash and Madipakkam as many as 13 flyovers would be constructed. At Padikuppam, a high level bridge would come up.
Tambaram is very busy place in Chennai and in this place a foot over bridge would be constructed. In Korattur, widening of railway over bridge would be carried out and construction of railway over bridge would be done in Ambattur under the Chennai City Decongestion Project.
It was pointed out by DMK MLA, Mr. S.R. Raja, that the flyover projects in places like Keelkattalai, Velachery, Pallavaram and Medavakkam were not completed still. This has resulted in vehicular traffic on the GST Road. It must be taken into account that this DMK MLA highlighted about the demand for grants for highways, minor ports as well as for the PWD. It was mentioned by the chief minister, Mr. Palaniswamy that 2 road projects and 2 flyovers would be carried out at a cost of Rs 409 crores.
Information is an amount of Rs 299 crores would be spent on a road over bridge at the ECR-Lattice Bridge Road Junction at Thiruvanmiyur plus on the widening of a section of ECR Road into a 6-lane highway. It is important to mention here that an amount of Rs 110 crores would be spent on construction of 2 U-shaped flyovers at the Tidel Park junction on the Rajiv Gandhi Road.
Point to be noted is 4-lane GST Road between Perungalathur and Singaperumal Koil would be converted into 8-lane highway. The chief minster then explained about how DPR/ detailed project reports and detailed feasibility reports or DFR would be made on the possibility of building 9 bridges and for linking roads at a cost of Rs 2.35 crores. It is worthy to note that DFR would be prepared at a cost of Rs 1.70 crores for the bridges over Halda Junction-Adyar, Greenways Road-Santhome High Road- Lighthouse, Vadapalani-Porur etc.
