Sometimes, commuters travel in the metro trains in Chennai without having time to take food also. This won’t be an issue anymore for the commuters. It is said that metro station on the Poonamallee High Road would have food kiosks serving delicious foods for the commuters to beat the hunger pangs of the commuters. Soon, in atleast in the 6 metro stations in Chennai, CMRL would be opening food kiosks for the commuters.

On the street level of the metro stations in various places like Koyambedu, Thirumangalam, Anna Nagar East, Shenoy Nagar, KMC and Nehru Park etc, food kiosks measuring 10 to 35sqmt are being set up. This has been confirmed by an official belonging to CMRL. The superb information is these food kiosks at various metro stations would be ready by the end of July or in the early August.

Point is these food kiosks would be set up in addition to the automatic vending machines installed in the metro stations to sell snacks and beverages. There are underground metro stations in Anna Salai such as Nandanam, Saidapet, Teynampet etc and it is now revealed that food kiosks would also be set up in these underground stations. The work might take 3 to 6 months before it gets completed fully.

To get space at the Chennai Central metro, one of the largest in Chennai city, work is going on now. Point to be noted is food units would be set up near the entrances and would serve both the commuters as well as others.

Popular brands of foods and beverages would be sold in these upcoming kiosks. It must be noted that commuters heading to board the metro train would not be allowed to carry the food they purchased beyond the paid area in the metro stations.

Food units have been set by popular brands in elevated metro stations like Ashok Nagar, Vadapalani, Alandur, Airport etc is known. As the food kiosks have been set up near the roads, commuters and others at Alandur metro station stop at one of the 2 entry points to have coffee, or some snacks etc.

It must not be forgotten that metro station in Shenoy Nagar had eateries in non-paid areas and were closed later on. It was mentioned by staff at the metro station that one of the eatery has been closed due to poor patronage and high rent but CMRL officials pointed out that dispute between the partners was the reason behind the closing of a popular food brand.

Important information is metro stations such as Anna Nagar East, Thirumangalam, Nehru Park etc opened in 2017 and those metro stations like Nandanam, Saidapet etc opened in 2018 have been functioning with unused commercial spaces.
