Waiting for longer duration of time for the sake of immigration clearance and security is not an easy task for any international passenger flying out of Chennai airport.

The superb piece of information is the time taken for the above mentioned activities would be reduced soon at the Chennai airport. It must be noted that currently it takes 45 minutes to hour or sometimes 90 minutes to complete immigration process and clear security.

For the sake of easing the congestion, international departure operations of2 airlines Spicejet and IndiGo would be shifted to the arrival hall in a month. This was as per the AAI or Airport Authority of India officials. Important information is at the Chennai airport departure operations function on the first floor of the new international terminal and arrivals are handled n the ground floor of the old international terminal.

An official highlighted about how the international arrival hall has been mostly lying unused ever since phase 1 modernization of airport was completed 6 years back. The reasons for this are due to lack of man power due to staff’s immigration and customs operations. Now for the departure operations also the arrival hall would be used and there would not be congestion.

In few occasions before, this arrival hall has been used for handling special Haj flight departures alone is known. It was later pointed out by an official that when the arrival hall was used for these flights then there was no congestion and the departures were smooth.

He threw light on how the arrangements were made to transfer the departure operations of Spicejet and IndiGo to the arrival halls. He added that few check-in counters and standalone baggage scanning machines would be ready in a month of time and after which it would start operating. This would be superb for many passengers.
