Amma Patrol for womens safety started in Chennai

These days many women and girls face issues regarding their safety. To provide safety for women and girls, police patrol for women safety also known as Amma Patrol began its operations in Chennai on Monday, 26th August 2019. Information gathered is chief minister of TN Mr. E. Palaniswamy launched a batch of 40 patrol vehicles.
The main objective is to provide ready response at the crime scene and to prevent any violence against women and girl children.An official spoke about how atleast 40 vehicles would be patrolling the Chennai city. Point is a total of 45 Toyota Innova Crysta 2.4G vehicles have been purchased at the cost of Rs 6.8 crores under Nirbhaya Fund. To respond to the emergency, 35 vehicles have been stationed at the police stations.It must be noted that women community needs safe, secure and empowering environment.
This project under the Nirbhaya Fund Initiative of the Ministry of Women and Child Development along with Ministry of Home Affairs would be providing the above mentioned environment for the women. It was pointed out by an official that it is a centrally sponsored scheme with 60: 40 cost sharing between central and state government. It is superb to mention here that by this project women would be able to pursue all opportunities without the threat of gender based violence and harassment.All forms of crimes against the women community as well as girl children at public places would be curbed by this patrol.
It is well known that Chennai city is major hub for the software industries and the percentage of working women is increasing. The security and safety of women is an issue now.Point to be noted is Chennai city is also destination for higher education and many girls from various parts of India and from many parts of the world come to Chennai to study. It is said that this Amma Patrol would ensure them safety. It is important to note that the key initiatives in the safe city proposal under the Nirbhaya Fund include safe zone clusters in hot crime zones.In as many as in 617 locations in Chennai, smart poles with emergency call boxes and public announcement systems would be installed.
In women’s colleges, markets, bus terminuses and places of worship etc, pan tilt zoom and box cameras would be installed.As per the deputy commissioner of police, special wing for women and children, H. Jayalakshmi, it is very clear that over 46 lakhs women are living in Chennai city. She added that in the last 3 years 2108 cases were registered and 43,022 complaints have been received related to crimes against women and children.
She concluded that these patrol vehicles would be deployed for patrolling in these areas where crimes against women and children were reported.It must be noted that women police personnel from 35 all women police stations would undertake surveillance activities in schools, women’s colleges, slums, bus stops, auto stands, shopping mall and parks. Information is police personnel would reach the spots immediately to help women and children in distress.
