Fresh loads of mangoes, apples arrive in Chennai and would be sold through mobile units

On Friday, 10th April 2020, Chennai saw the arrival of fresh loads of fruits like apples, mangoes and pomegranates etc. These fruits would be sold through mobile units later on.

It must be taken to note that the TN Horticultural department has been buying fruits and veggies from farmers for distribution to consumers during the ongoing Corona virus lock down. From places like Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri, fresh Alphonso mangoes have come to Chennai. It was later pointed out by Mr. Gagandeep Singh Bedi, agricultural production commissioner, that apples were procured from northern states and pomegranates from Maharashtra.

The horticulture go-down at Madhavaram was buzzing with activity yesterday as Mr. Gagandeep Singh as well as Mr. N. Subbaiyan, Horticulture Director inspected the fruits and veggies in this place.

Mr. Gagandeep Singh Bedi spoke about how from the farmers belonging to Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Thiruvallur and Kancheepuram etc the vegetables were procured and how the rates were very low as it was procured directly from the farmers. 

He highlighted that the buyers would get benefited also. These fruits and veggies are being sold in bulk or in packages with fixed rates. By using mobile vehicles, fruits and veggies are being sold at 15 zones in Chennai now is known.
