To those who order foods through Swiggy, Zomato etc in Chennai, here comes a shocking piece of news.
To compensate for the small workforce for covering higher distances, food aggregators like Swiggy, Zomato have increased their delivery fee. It was mentioned by some workers of these companies that their salary was not increased.
Amount ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 40 was earlier collected by the food aggregators before the lock down. This amount was based on the order value below certain amount and also on the distance between the restaurant and delivery location etc.
Now, the distance fee has been collected even for ordering food from the nearby restaurants
A resident of Nanganallur expressed his unhappiness about the extra fee that is being collected now by the food aggregators. He mentioned that Swiggy had increased the delivery fee without any prior information. It must be taken into note that Swiggy has also done away with the Super Scheme, a special subscription that allowed free delivery of food items from nearby hotels and no surge pricing.
It was brought out that even Zomato collected distance fee from its customers for orders from hotels above 5 km radius. It was mentioned by Zomato official that curtailed supply and fleet availability in some areas have resulted in the increase in the delivery radiuses.
Information is the increased distance fee compensates the extra distance the delivery partners have to go for ensuring those deliveries. The salary has been the same even now and this was as per some delivery executives.
