Prices of vegetables increase in Chennai now due to shortage

The shortage in the supply of vegetables at the Thirumazhisai market has resulted in an increase in the prices of vegetables now. The prices of the vegetables would be the same as the season for the second crops have started.

According to Mr. P. Sukumaran, secretary of Koyambedu Wholesale Market Merchants Association, the prices of the veggies would increase when the season for the second crop starts. In the month of March itself, the second crop was expected but it was delayed.

In the market, at present, tomato is being sold for Rs 20 t Rs 30 per kg, chili for Rs 40 per kg, ginger for Rs 70 to Rs 80 per kg, carrot for Rs 25 per kg, beetroot for Rs 35 per kg, radish for Rs 20 per kg, beans for Rs 70 per kg, broad beans for Rs 45 to Rs 50 per kg and brinjal for Rs 30 to Rs 35 per kg.

It has been mentioned by a vegetable belonging to the Thirumazhisai market that only a few vegetables have increased in price. He added that just like in the previous years there would not be any increase in the prices of the vegetables this year. After 15th July 2020, the prices of the vegetables are expected to come down.
