One of the biggest shopping hubs in Chennai is T. Nagar. The Coronavirus infection has been spreading like fire in Chennai is well known.

Chennai based resident welfare association has written to the union government seeking its involvement to close shops in T. Nagar till Coronavirus has been brought under control.

As per Mr. V.S. Jayaraman, president of T. Nagar residential welfare association, markets are one of the biggest hotspots for Coronavirus and the number of Coronavirus positive cases has been on the rise in T. Nagar. He concluded that the markets must be closed until the cases get reduced in Chennai.

It was then brought to light by Mr. B. Kannan, secretary of the association that as per the date from the GCC Motilal Street and South Boag Street were containment zones. He threw light on the presence of as many as 36 commercial establishments.

Point is there is a complaint regarding fire safety regulation violations plus other building violations and there is no chance of maintaining social distancing here. The Coronavirus spread would be more due to the centralized air-conditioning of the cramped shops. It is said that for the sake of their business many people belonging to cities like Mumbai, Pune, and Surat come to Chennai. These persons do not quarantine themselves. This is very risky as it could spread the Coronavirus.

The Chennai based resident welfare association in the letter to the ministry of personnel, public grievances and pensions had mentioned that the main reason for Chennai becoming a hotspot was due to the Koyambedu vegetable market where gatherings were allowed without any restriction and the situation went out of control. It was pointed out that T. Nagar was another place where crowding takes place and any relaxation and opening of commercial establishments would lead to issues again.
