Ban on fish retail sales at Kasimedu

To curb the widespread infection of coronavirus, the government had banned fishing and selling fisheries in the Kasimedu market previously. After the relaxation of the lockdown, fishermen considering their livelihood began fishing and marketing fishes at Kasimedu. Fishermen from Kasimedu started fishing in the deep sea from 15 July. There is a panic among the people, due to the reopening of the Kasimedu fish market for the fear of corona spread.
After the inspection by the Chennai corporation commissioner Prakash, Additional commissioner of police Arun, Secretary to the ministry of fisheries Sameeran, North Joint commissioner Balakrishnan, Prakash said that there are 20 markets under the control of the Corporation of Chennai and all of them are permitted to sell meat and fishes.
Retail outlets at Kasimedu fishing port may cause commotion in the areas and so retail selling is not permitted in this area. Wholesale selling of fishes to the retail sellers is permitted with strict enforcement of hygiene precautions like a compulsion to wear masks and social distancing. Safety precautionary measures are taken care of by the police department at the Kasimedu fishing port.
