After becoming a hotspot for Coronavirus infection and to control the spread of Coronavirus infection, Koyambedu wholesale market has been closed is well known to us.

For the sake of reopening this important market in Chennai, members belonging to Koyambedu Vegetables, Fruits and Flowers Merchants Association have made a representation to the CM of TN Mr. E. Palaniswami and deputy CM of TN Mr. O. Paneerselvam.

It is worthy to note that there are as many as3941 shops in this Koyambedu complex and this includes the food grain market also. This was as per Mr. M. Theyagarajan, association president. Apart from the retailers about30000 families were dependent on this market.

The point is only 500 to 600 traders have been given space at the Thirumazhisai and Madhavaram temporary market complexes. Many traders and labourers have lost their livelihoods as the market has been closed for more than3 months now.

Mr. Theyagarajan later spoke about how he had met the deputy CM Mr. O. Paneerselvam and how he was given assurance regarding measures by the deputy chief minister of TN.

Soon, the TN government would be announcing the reopening of Koyambedu wholesale market complex. It is superb to mention that this Koyambedu is Asia’s largest perishable goods market.
