Due to the outbreak and wide-spread of the raging coronavirus, the wholesale market for vegetables, fruits, and flowers at Chennai Koyambedu was closed as lockdown conditions were imposed as a preventive measure against the spread.
The wholesale market remained closed for about 6 months since March. Subsequently, the vegetable market alone was opened recently.
However, the fruit and flower wholesale market remained unopened. As such, the flowers and fruit traders appealed for the immediate reopening.
Considering this appeal, the wholesale fruit shops were allowed to be opened on Sunday (1st |November) night. Subsequently, the stock of fruits was brought to Koyambedu.
It has also been announced that the goods-carrying vehicles will be allowed ONLY FROM 7.00 PM TO THE NEXT MORNING 5.00 AM.
