Sholinganallur in south Chennai is an important locality and the GCC officials have been planting trees using the Miyawaki method here. By this, Chennai city would be gaining more lung space and would have a third urban green forest.
The Model School Road in Sholinganallur is buzzing with activities now as the GCC officials have been involved in planting as many as 2800 tree saplings on the 15586 sq ft land here. In addition, the flowering plants are also being planted by the officials here.
On Sunday, Chennai Corporation commissioner Mr. G. Prakash caught the attention of many when he inspected the site and planted tree saplings. Besides the water bodies and other government lands, urban green forests have been created across Chennai city by the Miyawaki method at many vacant plots.
It is now mentioned that the GCC has dug the earth up to 4 feet to plant trees and this was according to the Miyawaki method of developing green forests. For the sake of fertilizers, the GCC officials have used wet waste, cow dung plus coconut choirs etc. It is now said that there would be more such forests in the Chennai city. Wow!!
