There is some light at the end of the tunnel for the residents of Pulikundram near Chennai now!!
Puikundarm, a village located around 70kms from the city of Chennai is grabbing the attention of many now. This village would be getting electricity for the first time and the people here are delighted.
It is worthy to note that around 20 families belonging to Irula tribes are present in Pulikundram and these tribal people must thank a NGO plus a set of local government officers for the power supply. Truth is that the NGO people and the government officers took the documents from the Irula tribal people here and helped in getting the power supply. The Irula tribals have migrated from the nearby villages to Pulikundram for the sake of their jobs.
It was pointed out by Mr. N, Murigesan, founder of Democratic Education Trust that steps have been taken to get ID cards and patta from the Irula tribal people. He added that these people would be getting power supply for the first time in their lives. This NGO has been involved in the uplift of the Irula community. In TN, Irulas are one of the most backward tribal communities is a well known fact.
