Following the raging outburst and spread of the coronavirus, lockdown conditions were imposed by the Central and the State Governments last March (2020) as a preventive measure against the spread! As such, ‘E-Passes’ (travel permit) was made mandatory for the passengers travelling from 1 district to another within the state and visiting the other states.

Subsequently, with a gradual but consistent downward trend registered by the coronavirus impact, the mandatory requirement of E-passes for travel were removed!

In this situation, especially with the spread of coronavirus commencing for the 2nd time in several states in India including Tamil Nadu, E-pass has been mandatory again!

In a notification regarding the above released by the Chief Health Secretary of the Tamil Nadu State Government, J. Radhakrishnan, it is mentioned:

“All visitors to the state of Tamil Nadu visiting from other countries or States MUST obtain E-Pass. However, the visitors from the 3 states of Karnataka, Andhra, and Puducherry are exempted from this mandatory requirement of E-Pass.

Visitors who have come for a 72-hours stay in Tamil Nadu need not be isolated in separate houses. The visitors from the foreign countries must register the details online regarding their travel schedule, and the travel undertaken over the previous 14 days, etc., MUST be uploaded on the net!

The State Health Ministry of Tamil Nadu has further stated that the visitors must undergo testing within 72 hours before undertaking the journey and obtain the corona-negative certificate and upload the same online!”
