The number of Covid-19 cases is rising now and in addition to this there are also diarrhoea and diphtheria cases that are increasing in Chennai and in TN.

The last few weeks witnessed many diphtheria as well as diarrhoea cases in Chennai and in several districts in TN. The district level officers have been inspecting the cases individually and this was according to some health department officials.

Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme for the National Centre for Disease Control or NCDC has released a statewide data and according to the data it was clear that Dharmapuri district reported outbreaks of acute diarrhoeal diseases in 17 up to the age of 16 years. Truth is that these cases have been tested and a door-to-door survey has been conducted to look out for more such types of cases plus to find out the infection source.

Diphtheria cases have been found in the Tiruvallur district and this was after the throat swabs were tested at the Institute for Child Health. Point is that one child was tested positive for diphtheria in Gummidipoondi and other samples are also being monitored now. After the samples were tested, as many as 19 persons had malaria in Chennai and in Tiruvallur. To identify any other outbreak, the sampling and survey was conducted in all the cases. In other districts too, the district deputy directors are inspecting the area for similar types of outbreaks.

According to Dr. T.S. Selvavinayagam, director of public health and preventive medicine, the number of outbreaks in case of waterborne diseases and vector borne diseases has decreased.
