Amidst the increase in the fresh or new Coronavirus cases in TN, the chief secretary Mr. Rajeev Rajan has offered effective implementation of Covid-19  SOP’s or standard operating procedures. It is now said that the lack of manpower with GCC has become a huge cause for concern.

At present, political meetings plus gatherings like deity processions, temple festivals, family functions, funerals etc, the Covid-19 protocols are flouted. It must be noted that on Sunday as many as 1289 Covid-19 cases were reported in TN and as many as 466 cases in the Chennai city.

The police officials have pointed out that inspite of permission given to conduct non-political events there was no enforcement of SOP. For violating the Covid-19 norms in the last 7 months, an amount more than of Rs 4 crores was collected as penalty amount in Chennai. This was stated by the Commissioner of GCC. He added that it was the responsibility of the individuals to follow protocols. The Revenue Department had issued instructions regarding the following of SOPs.

The lack of enough manpower to enforce Covid-19 norms was due to the fact that the GCC had to divert resources for election duties plus for the Covid-19 vaccination drive also.

Covid-19 cases increase when the protocols are not followed by the public and at any meeting (political or non-political) the public must compulsorily follow Covid- 19 protocols.

It was later revealed by a date from the health department that as on 20th March 2021 Rs 14.94 crores has been collected as a fine amount by the public health department.
