The GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation has floated tenders worth Rs 8crores and streets and roads in Chennai would soon have new name boards. It is now said that this project would be implemented under the Singara Chennai 2.0 initiative. Truth is that GCC would also be printing pictures of prominent landmarks in the name boards.
Name boards of interior streets and roads in the Chennai city would be replaced with new name boards. This was as per the bid documents floated by GCC. For the sake of better visibility, the new name boards would be digitally printed. On Monday, tenders were scheduled to be opened.
According to a source the process has been postponed due to the elections and bids would be finalised once the elections get over. The source then mentioned that the project would be implemented under Singara Chennai 2.0 initiative. Recently in Mylapore, new name boards with pictures of some prominent landmarks of some of the roads there were installed by GCC as a trial purpose. The name boards had pictures of Kapaleeswarar Temple, Vivekananda Statue, Anna Memorial, Napier Bridge and Cathedral Church etc. The name boards in most of the residential localities in Chennai have been in damaged condition now is known.
Before the announcement of elections, tenders have been floated for reconstruction of new SWD, formation of playfields in many localities, opening canteen at Ripon Buildings for staff and others etc.
