QR code tickets in the metro trains in Chennai are making news now!!
Many passengers who travel by metro trains in Chennai use Qr code tickets and they have been facing problems. These passengers now need the help of the staff to pass through the gates. The Coronavirus infection pandemic has resulted in CMRL encouraging contactless ticketing and QR code tickets have been introduced is a known fact.
Though the complaints regarding various issues about QR code tickets have come down, they haven’t stopped completely. The delay in the journey has led to many passengers venting out their frustration verbally to the CMRL staff regarding faults in the ticketing process. It was mentioned by a source from CMRL that every minute is important for the commuters and each time the ticketing gate doesn’t accept QR code then staff would help the passengers.
Twenty percent discount on the ticket fares is being provided by the QR code tickets and this has been the major reason behind many commuters using this. Information is that in March 2022 less than 10% of the passengers brought QR code tickets. The gates get struck in the peak hours and due to this reason the queue gets slowed down.
This issue has been there in metro stations in places like Guindy, Thirumangalam and Koyambedu etc. The officials belonging to CMRL have mentioned that as and when they come to know about the issue they try to resolve them. Contractor has been intimated to provide a permanent solution to this issue.
