Buying Gold in north Madras on Akshaya Tritiya day!!

Today, 3rd May 2022 is Akshaya Tritiya day is well known. It is common for many people to buy gold on this auspicious day.
There are many jewellery shops in north Chennai and these shops are waiting eagerly now for this special day for their business. Usually, ahead of this auspicious day the bookings for gold etc would be high but this time it is low only. It was mentioned by some shop owners in north Chennai that only a few people buy gold on this special day and for others it is just a normal day only.
Small gold retailers spoke about how usually one day ahead of this special day gold business would be superb but this time around it was not. A salesperson belonging to Ganesh Jewellery in north Chennai explained that three years ago the sales of gold on Akshaya Tritiya day was brisk as people had belief that they would be able to save more gold by buying gold on this auspicious day.
Truth is that the Coronavirus pandemic and lockdown had affected the economy and many have stopped buying gold in general. This has also led to reduction in the sales of gold on the auspicious day. Normally, 80% of the customers from north Chennai buy gold and the rest buy silver. Now, many do not invest in gold and prefer to have money with them.
Owner of Royapuram based Indra Jewellery mentioned that the gold sales have come down drastically now as many do not buy gold. He then explained that due to the Coronavirus pandemic many lost their jobs and did not have enough money. They want to save money instead of buying gold on Akshaya Tritiya day. According to Mr. Udhaykumar Vummudi, President Chennai Jewellers Association, now many people are well planned and knowledgeable about buying gold.
